Peter Steyn Possum Hunter - Zanzibar Coconut Palm Wood w/African Blackwood
A member of the Knifemakers' Guild Of Southern Africa.
I am an Electrician by trade and have always been a 'hands-on' man. At one time I ventured into Furniture making because of my love of woodwork and machining but I have always had an inexplicable attraction to the smell and feel of cold Steel...perhaps this is why my journey into Knife making has been so consuming and passionate?
In 2003 I underwent a Heart bypass operation and was looking for a hobby to occupy myself, a friend showed me a Handcrafted knife that he had purchased and the search was over!
Date of first knife made - 2005 and have been part time/full time since 2005
I produce both Fixed Blade and Folding Knives. The Fixed Blades are mostly Hunting knives and the Folders are Friction Folders, Slip-Joints and Lock-Backs.
All my designs have proven to be very popular and I am best known for my "Covex" Grind i.e. Concave on the Obverse and Convex on the Reverse which ensures an excellent edge which is easy to maintain.
I use a wide variety of Hardwoods, especially African Hardwoods, as well as synthetics eg. G10, Carbon Fibre and Micarta.
I work with Sandvik 12C27, Bohler N690 and Rob Thomas Stainless Damascus.
