Custom Biltong Cutter by Thinus Herbst

Handcrafted by renowned South African knife-maker Thinus Herbst, this biltong slicer elevates a classic tool to a new level. Made from indigenous Kiaat, it features a broad wooden base with a raised block to collect sliced pieces, paired with a razor-sharp 420C high-carbon stainless steel blade, heat-treated to 58 HRC for lasting performance, capable of slicing through hundreds of kilograms of biltong with ease and precision.

Thinus Herbst, a master craftsman and long-standing voting member of the Knifemakers Guild, sadly passed away in 2025. Celebrated for his exceptional artistry and humility, his custom knives were featured worldwide in publications including 500 Knives, Blade Magazine, Knife Illustrated, and the Knifemakers Annual Yearbook. As co-founder of the Herbst Knife-Making Academy, he inspired and mentored countless makers, leaving behind a profound legacy in South Africa and the global knife-making community.
