Custom Knifemaker Profile: John Wilmot

A member of the Knifemakers' Guild Of Southern Africa.

John Wilmot has had an interest in knives for as long as he remembers, and started making his own at a young age using his father's tools. After completing his schooling, he was employed by the Department of Agriculture and trained as a civil engineer.

He went on early retirement in 1995 and relocated to the Eastern Cape with the aim of concentrating on his knifemaking hobby. The following year he joined the SA Knifemakers Guild and soon after started specializing in folding knives.

High quality materials such as Damascus steel, anodised titanium as well as local and imported woods are used. Although knifemaking is a hobby, the perfectionist in John strives for improvement with every knife, making them collectors' items as well as working knives.
