Kevin started making knives at a young age with the influence of his grandfather, and continues today as a renown, recognized Master Bladesmith, specializing in unique, large forged designs with careful attention to fit, finish, and materials.
Kevin currently hand forges bowies and historical knives from his own Damascus or from Damascus steel made by Heather Harvey, his wife (also a Master Bladesmith). The only two American Master Bladesmiths on the African continent and the second married couple Master Bladesmiths. Heather was the second lady Master Bladesmith in the world, there are now four.
Both head up a team, making pieces under the logo of Heavin Forge, used by Kevin on the knives he creates while demonstrating for his classes at the Knifemaking Studio and School. Renowned for his knife making courses in South Africa on bladesmithing, stock removal, and Damascus forging.

Every knife the Harvey's make is a once off creation, they don't work from templates or laser cut outs or make use of CNC machinery. The knives never leave their workshop, every step of their creation from the initial forging, heat treatment, hand embellishment and leather work was done with their own hands, paying particular attention to the smallest detail and taking great pride in always making a superior tool, unique, lovingly created investment that should last for generations. All the money earned by the Harvey's is put back into their workshop as well as into learning new skills to better enhance their art.
